As we age, naturally and through exposure to UV radiation and environmental pollutants, less elastin is synthesised by the body, causing the elastin content of the skin dermal tissue to diminish. As a consequence, collagen (90% of which is found in dermal cells) loses its structural support - wrinkles, sagging skin and visible cellular ageing are the result.
Replenishing these supportive elastin structures gives strength and flexibility to collagen fibres, which in turn firms the appearance of skin. Additional clinical research is warranted, but studies to date strongly suggest ingestion of tuna elastin improves skin appearance, elasticity, wrinkle visibility, and blood flow.
